Rain On Me
Suitable for Youth Groups
Mark Rees' award-winning drama for teenagers was first performed at the Lochside Theatre Castle Douglas in February 2001. It went on to win the Quidi Vidi trophy at the Scottish Youth Finals in Dundee in June the same year.
A modern 'Romeo and Juliet' with overtones of 'West Side Story' and 'Roxanne'. While the drama is serious in parts, it is hugely entertaining and contains realistic and sometimes hilarious dialogue which will have much appeal to teenage casts. There are fourteen parts, which means lots of involvement.
Players: 7 Male, 6 Female, 1 M/F
Cast: Kevin, Jack, David, Jason, Alvin, Smurf, Robert, Natalie, Kerry, Charlotte, Lucy, Rachel, Sarah
Sets: The action takes place in various situations. So a composite set that can become anywhere would be useful. It should maybe have a Gothic theme with large pillars.

Having performed in the North East area one act play festival at the Georgian Theatre Royal with Rain on Me I wanted to let you know our production achieved the People's Award for the Best Festival Production. I must tell you this play was loved by our audience who were laughing so much they had tears in their eyes! The young performers loved working on such a moving yet funny script that was totally relevant to them. As director it was a joy to find a play for my teenage members that allowed them to work on comedy and at the same time feel the emotion that Kevin/Romeo and his friends would have experienced. Please pass on my congratulations to the writer who has created a work that our members will never forget.
