Her first play, “Santa’s Christmas Carol,” was runner up in the SCDA Play on Words Competition 2006, and also won the Helensburgh Shield for drama at the Scottish Association of Writers annual conference in 2007, in both cases under its original title “Every Single Day but One.”
She has also written a variety of children’s stories which have won awards. In 2000 and 2004 she won the Writers News Trophy for fiction for children aged under seven, and in 2008 won the T.C. Farries Trophy for a children’s novel, which she hopes will eventually be published. In 2006 she was placed in the final fifteen of the BBC’s “Finish This” writing competition, ahead of a field of over 17000 entries.
As a member of the Greenock Players, Claire has been active in the field of amateur dramatics for some years as an actor, writer and director, even reaching the Scottish finals of the SCDA one act play competition as a performer in 2005.
Claire is married and the mother of two daughters, aged 6 and 12. Her husband is a radio DJ with Your Radio, and she met him when they both presented radio shows in the early 1990s. Her favourite authors are Roddy Doyle and George Orwell. She has appeared on several TV quiz shows, including Blockbusters, Champion Blockbusters, The Passport Quiz, Greed and Snap!
